L'Oreal True Match: My Favorite Drugstore Foundation - Review, Photos, Swatches of W3, W4, W6

L’Oreal True Match is hands down my favorite foundation for many reasons!! Keep reading below to find out why...

Formulated with True Match Technology so you can control coverage and fine-tune it. Ultra-pure formula contains no oils, fragrances, or pore-clogging fillers, so all you see is beautiful, radiant, flawless skin. With Vitamins A and C, wheat germ and grapefruit extract to keep your skin nourished, protected and healthy.

Why is it my favorite?

Great color selection: True Match has a wide range of shades in the categories Warm, Neutral and Cool. I have warm undertones so that is why I wear “W”. Usually Ulta has testers of the shades so you find your match. Make sure to match the color on your jawline not your hand! You want to do it this way so that your face and neck match. For reference, I wear shade W4 but will sometimes wear W3 in the winter. I like to use W6 when I am very tan. I also tend to use this shade when my face tan has faded and my face & body do not match. W6 helps even out both of these so they are the same color. I like to mix and max my true match colors to customize my shade since my skintone changes often do to self tanning.

**For reference on what color I use based on my current skintone:
W3 ~ MAC NC20-NC25
 W4 ~MAC NC30-NC35
I plan on getting W6 to wear when I'm a MAC NC35-NC42

Easy to blend: As it claims, it is easy to blend and works fantastic with a foundation brush. Honestly, I really enjoy working with this foundation. I like to use Sigma F82 or Real Techniques stippling brush. I have noticed that my foundation always looks best when I use a brush to blend it out.

Real Techniques Stippling brush (pink) & Sigma F82 Round Kabuki

Medium-Buildable coverage: I like my foundations to be medium coverage and not heavy. This is exactly what this foundation is. It does not give that “mask like” look and looks natural once blended in. I find that this foundation covers mild scarring and other minor skin tone issues.

Satin Finish: I would that is foundation gives a satin finish. It is not a matte or dewy finish, rather it sits somewhere in between. I like that it looks like my skin but better!

Long Lasting (when wore with a primer): When I wear a primer (I usually wear Lorac AquaPrime) I find that True Match lasts a long time. It has been ridicioulosly hot & humid where I live and this foundation made it through the day. I will admit that sometimes shine may peek through, but it is nothing my Cargo Blu-Ray HD Powder can’t quickly fix. Click HERE to read my review on it

Affordability: True Match varies on price but usually costs about $7-9 at drugstores. Ulta usually runs a buy one get one ½ off deal every now and then, and you can use their $3.50 off $10 coupons on this product too!

  1. my little sister is just starting to use makeup (thirteen years old! ahhh they grow up so fast!), and i'm helping her pick out foundations and blushers and the like. anyway, i picked out this foundation for her combination, acne prone skin, and it covers everything up really well, and her skin looks really good!
i even bought her a brush to go with it, and taught her how to apply makeup.
i know thirteen might seem really young, but she was starting to dabble in mine and my mom's makeup collection on her own, so i think she's ready. it's better if i help her out and teach her how to use it instead of having her do it on her own and having it look awful.
ha ha, anyway, i'm totally rambling! point blank: this stuff is great :)

  2. I have always wondered about this foundation...I was never really sure whether it would be good coverage despite the good math (they have testers in my local Rite Aid), but now I may just have to check it out! Great post!

    1. I would say the coverage is medium at most...I would not say it is full coverage. If you want full coverage check out my other favorite Laura Mercier Silk Creme. I use that one more in the colder months because it's moisturizing :)

It really is a great foundation...especially for that price point! Which Revlon one are you using? Ohhh and those brushes are great!! The stippling brush from RT is amazing. I love using it for my foundation, it gives an almost airbrush look.

I'm using the Revlon ColorStay Foundation! It's actually not too heavy for me during the summer! And I will have to get some of the brushes next time I go to Ulta!

  17. I bought this foundation about two months ago in shade W7. I do like the finish, but i feel like W7 is a tad too dark on my NC42-44 skin. Shade W6 is unfortunately not available in Malaysia (where i'm from) and Paris (where i am currently at), so there's no way of testing it out before i try to buy it online. Maybe you can share your opinion on whether W6 would be better suited for me...? Long shot, but just thought maybe someone could help me! Thanks!
