7 Deadly Sins - Beauty Tag

Hi all! This beauty tag has been around for quite awhile now, but I thought it would be fun to do!

1. Greed: What is your most inexpensive beauty product you love?

Elf cream eyeliner? ~ $3
This cream eyeliner is one of my all time (and most used) eye makeup products. It is easy to use (I like to use a small angled brush) and has good staying power. I have been using this for quite awhile and have hardly made a dent in this.

2. What is your most expensive beauty products you love?

Sultra Bombshell Curling Wand & Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

Sultra bombshell 1 inch curling wand ~ $130

This has got to be my favorite heat tool. I don’t even use traditional curling irons anymore because of this item. This curling wand literally takes 5-15mins (depending how much hair I am curling & how tight of a curl I want) to curl my hair. It heats up really fast and is evenly heated. This is important because you do not want hot spots on your iron. Likewise, I want to mention for hot tools that I suggest (if your budget allows) to buy ceramic made. Pretty much all heating tools now are ceramic but there is a difference in the wear & tear when mentioning price. A cheaper iron typically is coated in ceramic and will wear off during the months & years with use. A more expensive iron will last you a lot longer because it is MADE of ceramic. I am not suggesting you run out and buy a $100+ iron, rather I am giving my opinion on this because this issue happened to me!
Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation ~ $42
This is my “luxury” foundation. I love everything about it…the wear, color (I’m bamboo beige) and how easy it is to blend & work with. It has an expensive price tag, but I think it is worth it. This foundation does everything it says it will and works really well for me especially in the colder months as it is moisturizing. I plan to do a full review on this product very soon!
2. WRATH: What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with?

Lipstick
NYX Lipsticks
I really like wearing lipsticks and I really only wear nude/natural shades. As I talked about before in my NYX lipstick post (click HERE to read it), my lips are very dry so sometimes it is a pain with staying power & overall look. Any tips you may have for this issue please let me know!

3. Gluttony: What are your most delicious beauty products?

Lush??

I don’t really have a good answer for this question…I do like Lush products, but haven’t bought them in awhile!

4. Sloth: What beauty product do you neglect due to laziness?

Body Lotion
Origins Ginger Souffle
I thought about this question for awhile and all I could come up with was body lotion. I preach that is it very important to moisturize if you self tan, and I do try my best to put lotion on after each shower. I love the smell of Origins Ginger Body Souffle!!

However, sometimes I’m lazy and don’t feel like taking the 2 minutes to do it. I am currently looking for a spray moisturizer so I can make the process a lot quicker & easier! Has anyone tried The Body Shop’s Coconut Milk Body Spray?

5. Pride: What beauty product makes you feel confident?

Foundation or mascara

Both of these make me feel more confident. I really like the way foundation makes your skin look flawless & mascara is a must for me! Even if I don’t have on any other makeup, I will always pop on mascara if I have a minute. I did reviews on my favorite mascaras HERE & one of my favorite foundations L'Oreal True Match HERE

6. Lust: What traits do you find attractive in the opposite sex?

A kind heart, makes me laugh, a nice smile and I like facial hair! All of these things my boyfriend has :)

7. Envy:  What item would you most like to receive as a gift?

Perfume
Kate Walsh Boyfriend
I would say perfume. I don’t typically buy perfume for myself, rather I ask for certain scents for my birthday or Christmas. This past birthday I asked for Kate Walsh’s Boyfriend. This has become my new favorite perfume! If you like woodsy scents then check it out.

My Skincare Routine

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a good weekend.

I wanted to share what my current skincare routine is. I have been doing this same routine for quite awhile now so I decided to share what I use. Yes, all of products shown are from Kiehl's. I do not and have never worked for Kiehl's. I sadly used all my own $$$ to buy all this stuff. I am just a huge fan of their skincare line and what their products have done for my skin. My skin has never looked better! Thanks Kiehl's!

My skin type is normal to dry and changes with the seasons. In the fall and winter my skin tends to be a lot drier, while in the summer I have combination skin (T-Zone). Taking care of skin has become a top priority for me!

**Each name of the product will link to the Kiehl's website so you can check out the product!
**All product information under each product is from Kiehl's website

  • Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser
    • I use this every single night to clean my face & take my makeup off
    • Our Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser is a quick-lathering cleansing foam that thoroughly removes impurities and visibly reduces excess oil on skin’s surface, while leaving skin looking more balanced.  With Imperata Cylindrica Root and Lemon Fruit Extracts, our non-stripping, sulfate-free formula leaves skin clean and refreshed without over-drying.  Gentle enough for sensitive skin. Oil-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free, colorant-free.
  • Kiehl's Abyssine Cream
    • I use this moisturizer in the colder months as it is a richer texture
    • The anti-wrinkle moisture solution from the deep.
•Anti-wrinkle defense cream to help reduce the signs of aging and protect skin from external damage.
•Abyssine, a survival molecule which thrives under the extreme conditions in hydrothermal ocean vents, helps soothe and protect skin.
•Helps minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while defending skin from free radical damage.
  • Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream
    • I use this moisturizer in the warmer months because it is very light
    • Our Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream is a non-oily, quickly absorbed hydrator that visibly reduces the appearance of oil and leaves skin looking and feeling more balanced. The oil-free gel cream works synergistically with skin’s natural lipids to visibly reduce excess oil on skin’s surface. It is non-greasy, and retains essential moisture in skin for a healthier, re-balanced skin barrier and a smoother, fresher appearance. With Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract, Antarcticine, and Cucumber Fruit Extract, this unique preparation helps skin retain moisture and protect it from arid conditions. The unique gel cream texture is instantly absorbed leaving a dry feel. Oil-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free, colorant-free.
  • Kiehl's Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate

•Formulated with a 10.5% Pure Vitamin C, Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate is clinically-demonstrated to improve overall skin texture, tone and radiance while reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
•Superior results over Retinol at 8 weeks on skin texture, tone and lines and wrinkles.

PH-balanced, and tested for safety and gentleness.  Oil-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free, colorant-free.
  • Kiehl's Milk Honey & Almond Scrub
    • I use this before self tanning my face & neck
    • Our rich scrub treatment provides a very gentle, moisturizing, deep pore-cleansing effect for all, including dry or sensitive skin types.

NYX Round Case Lipsticks Reviews

I am a big fan of nude lipsticks. However, when I say “nude” I do not mean that extremely pale almost white lip. I like my nude lipsticks to mute out my natural lip color but not erase them. Does that make sense? I never have been a big fan of color on my lips. I just can’t pull if off! Besides, I like to play up my eyes and have always preferred a dramatic eye over a dramatic lip.

I am always on the search for the “perfect nude lipstick” and looking at swatches online of different colors and different brands. I finally decided to pick up two from NYX that I heard about. I have been using them for quite some time now. All 4 shades are "nudes" but differ in undertones. Below I listed the undertones I feel that each shade has. I feel that these lipsticks don’t get as much love in the beauty world for some reason! So here they are featured on my blog!

WHAT NYX SAYS ABOUT ROUND CASE LIPSTICK

NYX Round Lipstick is our classic lipstick for all-year round. The mineral-based emollient formula offers a beautiful velvet texture, saturated color and it resists wear and smudging. It’s your go-to lipstick. From Pure Nude to Pink Lyric to Chic Red, Round Lipstick is available in a jaw-dropping 144 shades.

NYX Top Selling lipstick:

  • Features a velvet-textured formulation packed with high shine
  • Is formulated with mineral oils to moisturize and condition
  • Offers long-lasting, smudge-proof color
  • Is available in a array of shades

  •  A little about my lips: This is important to know because everyone has different shaped lips and different natural color. I have very dry lips and have had an issue wearing nudes in the past because of this. Thankfully, with the help of Avon’s lip balm and EOS lip balm, my lips are doing better. Why are you telling me this you ask? Well, this “dilemma” I have is one of the very reasons why I love the NYX lipsticks Circe, Honey, Creamy Beige & Orange Soda…

    Why I like these lipsticks:
    • Excellent color payoff & pigmentation
    • Wide range of shades (if you like more color)
    • Moisturizing on the lips (first ingredient is bees wax)
    • They do not dry out my lips
    • No taste or scent
    • Affordable (costs $3.99 at Ulta)
      • And Ulta runs sales a lot on this brand (EX: Buy one get one 1/2 off)
    • Hypoallergenic
    • Cruelty Free (if this is a important beauty buying factor to you)

    Gripes:

    • They don’t last long (I would say a few hours max)
    • Can wear off easily so you may need to reapply often
    • Very creamy so could melt (This hasn't happened to me though)

    SWATCHES:

"Circe" has more of a pink/beige undertone
"Honey" has more a orange/peachy undertone
"Orange Soda" has a creamsicle orange/peach undertone
"Creamy Beige" has a beige/brown undertone

    "Circe" in natural daylight
Orange Soda (left) & Creamy Beige (right)

    Circe (left) & Honey (right)

As you can tell, Circe & Honey are pretty dang similiar. However, if you really like nude lipsticks then it is easy to justify having both. I think these are great nude lipsticks that are affordable and wearable!

Have you tried these lipsticks? What are your favorite drugstore nude lipsticks?

    Thanks for reading,

PS) As many of you know, I have raved about the Revlon Colorstay Nail Polishes. I ended up painting my nails last night (usually I go to the salon) and they didn't turn out half bad. I made a few little goofs on my right hand because it's so hard for me to paint with my left hand. If you have any tips for that, please let me know :)

Some exciting news to share and a big thank you!!

Hi everyone! I hope all is well! I had a great long weekend and the week is off to a busy start already. Today, I wanted to share some exciting news with you all!

As some of you may have already read, I did a blog post on Xen Tan's Face Tanner Luxe last Friday. I was really happy with the end result and I appreciate all of the comments you all left on the post! It was really exciting to know that I introduced some of you to the brand.

So continuing with that, I emailed my blog posting to Xen Tan to share. If I really love a product and believe in it, I want not only friends & family to know about it but also the company!

Xen Tan was kind enough to reply to me and what is even cooler is that it was from the CEO/Founder of the the company!

I was really impressed and it made me feel special to know they took the time out to read my article. With that said, Xen Tan pleasantly surprised me and put up my posting on their Twitter & Facebook! I couldn't believe it! How cool is that?

Happy One Month (and 4 days!) Anniversary!
Purple Shampoo was launched last month on June 13

I also wanted to share that as of today, July 17th @ 4:15pm
Purple Shampoo has over 2000 page views
    &

This would not be possible without YOU! I thank each and every one of you that has stopped by my page. It means so much to me that people are reading my thoughts and leaving their comments & questions. I read all of your comments! I have found so many  great new blogs through beauty blogging!

Thank you so much for your support!!

    Xen Tan Face Tanner Luxe

    Xen Tan Face Tanner Luxe

I LOVE this product. I firmly believe that this is the best fake tan face tanner on the market. It gives a fantastic color that actually smells good, doesn't cause breakouts, it's easy to apply and work with, long lasting, fades evenly, and most of all looks like a real tanner (not orange at all).

If you want to learn more about this Face Tanner Luxe then keep reading!
Details & Photos will be below.

How did I find it: I heard about Xen Tan from Tanya or Pixi2woo on YouTube. She mentioned in a video about favorite fake tans for the face.  At that point, I was getting really into self tanning and decided to research the product. I included a photo of the back of the bottle for you to look at.

Here are some of the key facts:

    • Oil Free
      • I have not had any break outs from using this product.
    • Comes in two shades (Light/Medium or Medium/Dark)
      • I use the Medium/Dark for the darkest color. I also finds that my body tan stays darker MUCH longer so this helps match. The Medium/Dark also contains a color guard and the Light/Medium does not.
    • Gently exfoliates your face so that the color stays smooth
      • I still scrub beforehand, but I think this is what helps the color fade evenly
    • Develops in a short timespan (bottle says 3 hours)
      • I usually will sleep with this on, as I find the color is much darker
    • Contains no dimethicone
      • This was important to me because I have trouble using products on my face that contain a high amount of dimethicone which is a silicone used in many products.

    How to use it:

I like to first exfoliate my face & neck. My favorite scrub to use is the Kiehl's Milk, Honey & Almond Scrub. This scrub contains gritty but NOT abrasive particles. I find that when I use this scrub (compared to my others) that the color looks the darkest and fades the slowest. I think this is because it really polishes my skin. However, any scrub that you like will be fine. Just make sure NOT to use something oil based! This could cause streaks & unevenness.

Showing the color guide ~ Taken in natural daylight
This is the order of my routine:

    1. Wash & Exfoliate (This is VERY important)
    2. Make sure skin is 100% dry
    3. I squeeze out about a nickel size onto my fingers.
    4. I will start on my cheeks & nose & ears (yep tan those ears!)
    5. I will do around my mouth & chin & jawline
    6. Next, I will do my forehead & hairline (don't be afraid to get it in your hairline or else you will see that fake tan line!
    7. I will usually repeat steps 3-6 again if I want to be very dark. This is just my preference, you do not have to do this.
    8. Lastly, I will go over my neck & throat so that my face & neck are the same color.
    9. You are done! Make sure not to get your face wet OR use any other products on your face. The bottle says you can use it under makeup but I prefer not to.
The color guide in the Medium/Dark formula makes it so easy to make sure you did not miss a spot! For reference, I usually reapply this 1-2x a week.

All in all, I think this is an excellent product for those who are new to tanning or advanced! It is really hard to goof it up if you follow my tips above. If you have any other tips for me & other beauty readers, feel free to share below!

Bottom line: Xen Tan is my favorite self tan brand and is the only brand that I use. I am so happy with the results I get from this line, that I don't find the need to check out brands. I use the Dark Lotion & Mousse for my body, as well as the tanning mitt they make. Posts of these products will be up in the near future.

What are your favorite face tanners?
Have you tried Face Tanner Luxe or any other products from the Xen Tan line?

If you have any questions about this product, please let me know! I have been faithful to it over a little over a year :)

    Thanks for reading,

L'Oreal True Match: My Favorite Drugstore Foundation - Review, Photos, Swatches of W3, W4, W6

L’Oreal True Match is hands down my favorite foundation for many reasons!! Keep reading below to find out why...

Formulated with True Match Technology so you can control coverage and fine-tune it. Ultra-pure formula contains no oils, fragrances, or pore-clogging fillers, so all you see is beautiful, radiant, flawless skin. With Vitamins A and C, wheat germ and grapefruit extract to keep your skin nourished, protected and healthy.

    Why is it my favorite?

Great color selection: True Match has a wide range of shades in the categories Warm, Neutral and Cool. I have warm undertones so that is why I wear “W”. Usually Ulta has testers of the shades so you find your match. Make sure to match the color on your jawline not your hand! You want to do it this way so that your face and neck match. For reference, I wear shade W4 but will sometimes wear W3 in the winter. I like to use W6 when I am very tan. I also tend to use this shade when my face tan has faded and my face & body do not match. W6 helps even out both of these so they are the same color. I like to mix and max my true match colors to customize my shade since my skintone changes often do to self tanning.

(Top to bottom) W3, W4, W6 ~ taken in bathroom lighting
(left to right) W6, W4, W3 ~ taken in home lighting
(left to right) W6, W4, W3 ~ taken in bright daylight

For ideas on what shades to use, try out Temptalia's Foundation Matrix
(Click HERE to go to her site!)

**For reference on what color I use based on my current skintone:
    W3 ~ MAC NC20-NC25
     W4 ~MAC NC30-NC35
    I plan on getting W6 to wear when I'm a MAC NC35-NC42

Easy to blend: As it claims, it is easy to blend and works fantastic with a foundation brush. Honestly, I really enjoy working with this foundation. I like to use Sigma F82 or Real Techniques stippling brush. I have noticed that my foundation always looks best when I use a brush to blend it out.

Real Techniques Stippling brush (pink) & Sigma F82 Round Kabuki

Medium-Buildable coverage: I like my foundations to be medium coverage and not heavy. This is exactly what this foundation is. It does not give that “mask like” look and looks natural once blended in. I find that this foundation covers mild scarring and other minor skin tone issues.

Satin Finish: I would that is foundation gives a satin finish. It is not a matte or dewy finish, rather it sits somewhere in between. I like that it looks like my skin but better!

Long Lasting (when wore with a primer): When I wear a primer (I usually wear Lorac AquaPrime) I find that True Match lasts a long time. It has been ridicioulosly hot & humid where I live and this foundation made it through the day. I will admit that sometimes shine may peek through, but it is nothing my Cargo Blu-Ray HD Powder can’t quickly fix. Click HERE to read my review on it

Affordability: True Match varies on price but usually costs about $7-9 at drugstores. Ulta usually runs a buy one get one ½ off deal every now and then, and you can use their $3.50 off $10 coupons on this product too!

    FOTD: 60's Hippie!

Hi all! I hope you had a great weekend! I went to my boyfriend’s family reunion this past Saturday and it was so much fun! They do a themed reunion every year and this year it was decades. I decided to be a hippie from the 60’s, and my boyfriend went as his Dad in the 80’s. After seeing photos, his costume was dead on! He even wore his Dad’s shirt from the 80’s. So I figured I could do a face of the day with the look I wore for this party. I didn’t wear too much makeup because it was sooooooo hot outside and obviously hippie’s don’t really get all glammed up. Here’s what I did use:

    Face:
*Since it was hot (I’m talking 100 degrees people!) I didn’t really want to wear any face makeup. However, I wanted to even out a few spots on my chin.
    L'Oreal True Match Concealer W4-5
Cargo Blu-Ray HD Powder in #30 (CLICK HERE to read my rave review on it!)
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
    & of course sunscreen!!

    Eyes:
    Urban Decay Eden Primer Potion
    MAC Rubenseqe Paint Pot
Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Jet
CoverGirl Lash Blast & Neutrogena Healthy Length (layered to give “false lashes” look!)
Per-Fekt Brow Perfection Gel in Caramel (CLICK HERE to read my review on it)

Have you ever gone to a theme party? How did you do your makeup for it?

Roundup: My top 4 favorite mascaras

I decided to do a post about my favorite mascaras because frankly I love mascara. Honestly, if I had 5 minutes to do my makeup I would only wear a tad of foundation and then multiple coats of mascara. I feel that mascara not only completes a look, but it works it magic opening, defining and just making you look more awake. I will admit that my love affair for mascara has led me to try numerous mascaras. Many I have liked, many I have disliked, but these 4 are my ultimate favorites that I like to think as my standbys…

    CoverGirl Lash Blast:

This is one of the best mascaras ever, hence why it gets so much attention. I feel like people either love it or leave it. I think it does a fantastic job of making my lashes look long and thick. It performs well with other eye makeup, and it stands well on its own. If someone was brand new to mascara I think I would tell them to buy this. I can’t say enough good things about it! The brush itself is a rubber wand with little grips on it. I find this makes separating my lashes easier, and also helps with no clumping. The only gripe I have is that it can be difficult to remove. However, since finding my new favorite makeup wipes (Hi Neutrogena!) it has been easier to remove this.

    Neutrogena Healthy Volume:

This mascara doesn’t get a lot of hype. I love it because it is easy to work with, doesn’t clump and makes my lashes look really thick and plump. It also has rice protein in it that helps with growth. I can’t really say if that is true or not, but I know it comes off with ease (when I want it to!), and makes my lashes feel soft. The brush itself is a long traditional wand which I think is what helps "pump" up the lashes. This is a good mascara if you are a volume loving kind of girl.

    Neutrogena Healthy Length:

This is another mascara that doesn’t get a lot of love! I bought this one and the one above at Ulta on a buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. As you may get from the name, this mascara gives outstanding length. The brush itself is a rubber like, thin and has varied separators. Like legit “fake lashes” looking. I don’t wear fake lashes at all since they bother my eyes, but with this tube I get the look of the falsies but no eye tearing.

TIP: The healthy volume & healthy length look crazy together!! See for yourself above…

    Kiehl’s Marvelous Mineral:

I am a Kiehl’s addict. Literally everything skincare (and now I’m getting into their hair stuff) I use is Kiehl’s. This brand has done wonders to my skin, so it is only natural (see what I did) to check out their mascara. This mascara did not disappoint! I love it frankly and so does Temptalia. The brush itself is a traditional wand that is medium sized and has very defined separators. This makes it really easy to comb through my lashes. It is a great tube that does it all: length, volume, separating. It is a little pricier but I’m willing to splurge!

What are your favorite mascaras? These are my favorites but I love trying new ones!

June Empties And New Nails NOTD

Today's post will feature my "June empties". A lot of beauty bloggers do these types of posts at the end of each month and I love to read them. Call me nosy but I like seeing what people use up, especially since it takes me forever to finish up a product. I get so excited once I finish a product. I guess it is just the satisfaction that I used up something, as well as the feeling that "I got my moneys worth". You know what I mean.

    (left to right)

Xen Tan Deep Bronze Luxe: I think this is a fantastic self tanner. This is great for a beginner to intermediate level self tanner. There is a nice light color guard so you can see exactly where you are putting the tanner, and also to make sure you don't miss a spot. I will be doing a huge review featuring a ton of Xen Tan products as they are my favorite self tanning brand. Stay tuned!

Would I buy again: Yes, for sure.

The Body Shop Candied Ginger Shower Gel & Body Butter: I got these over the holidays as they were limited edition scents. I love the smell of ginger scented body & bath products so that is why I picked these up. I did get some Candied Ginger products for Christmas, but I think the above ones were ones I got on clearance at the store for super cheap.

Would I buy again: Probably, but only if they were on clearance again. I tend to buy too many bath & body products that just sit and wait to be used.

Almay Oil Free Makeup Removed Pads: I love these! These have got to be my favorite makeup remover pads ever. Not only are they quick and conveniently shaped, but they also do a great job at removing my eye makeup.

Would I buy again: 100% Yes

Lush Almond & Coconut Smoothie: I bought this product on impulse. The sales girl showed me it because I asked if they had any products that smelled like marshmallow (yes I know that is strange). I really liked the texture of this body wash, but it did not have that much of a lather. Also at a $20ish price tag, it was difficult to justify the purchase. I thought it was a great product but would probably only get it if I had a gift card to Lush.

Would I buy again: Only if I had a gift card. See above for reasons why.

Living Proof Full Shampoo: I bought this product after getting a sample packet from Sephora. It has an excellent lather and smells pretty good too. I can't really say that my hair had more volume though.

Would I buy again: Nah. I constantly want to switch up shampoos, and this didn't really have that "holy grail" status for me. It is a good product but also pretty expensive.I should have purchased the smaller bottle.

So there are my June Empties. Let me know if you like to see these kind of posts!

Did you finish up any products that you are for sure going to buy again/not buy again?

Wearing Revlon Colorstay Nail Polish in Stormy Night

Like I talked about before, I'm a huge fan of these new Revlon nail polishes! I really like this color...it is almost a gray-purple-taupe combo. Also, I should note that those are my natural nails. I decided to take off my acrylics. They were ruining my nails, were too much upkeep, and now that my real nails have grown out I want to try to maintain them. Any tips are welcome!

    Thanks for reading,
    Carly
